Tom’s career in broadcasting began while a student at Park High in Cottage Grove, Minnesota. It was during that time that he joined the School’s Radio Club. And became a member of the Sports Department. That was an exciting time because he already enjoyed sports. Now he was able to talk about it live! From that moment his love of sports announcing blossomed. While majoring in Broadcast Journalism in college at the University of River Falls, Wisconsin, he continued Sports Announcing and honed his skills working with the college radio station. After college, he embarked on a career in sports broadcasting and what a smart choice. Tom’s career has taken him to three states that include his native Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. He’s worked for the University of Minnesota since 1995, St. Cloud State University, Augsburg University since 1997, University of St. Thomas and the UW-River Falls. And has covered High School sports in over 15 conferences. His passion and experience is evident for sports the way he carefully and creatively calls a game.The uniqueness of his legendary voice and dedication has kept Tom in the game for over forty years and twenty plus of those as the primary play by play broadcaster for Augsburg University Athletics. To build on his career, he created T. J. Broadcast Service in 2000, which focuses on the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and High School Sports. In addition, Tom was chosen to receive two prestigious awards. In 2009 he was inducted into The Minnesota State High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame and was the 2013-2014 recipient for the Mike Augustin Award which recognizes a person’s outstanding contributions to MIAC athletic programs and their student-athletes in the area of media, broadcasting and sports information. Tom whose loves all sports, lists golf as his favorite and resides in Maplewood, MN.
